Catch-up

The 2009 season has started for art shows and photo competitions, and it has been slow getting work ready. The loss of the scanner to either some virus or to the same storm last summer that took the refrigerator has made it impossible to work on any of the new negatives, and time is very tight.

So yesterday I had to make the trip to Fry's Electronics to pick up a new one.

The Epson Perfection V500.

It should be a good compliment to the new camera, a Mamiya RB67 Pro-S with a macro lens for doing close work. For some things it will outshine my little workhorses, the Yashica TLRs I've used for a few years now. It certainly has been fun to use, even if it is an upper-body workout. But that's why G*d made tripods, right?

Looks good, seems to get passable reviews, and will accomodate medium format negatives. It should work a lot like my old Epson, but with a much higher dpi count. 9600 x 4800. If it will scan with enough sensitivity to blow a 35mm negative to an 11 x 17 print, I can only imagine what it will do to a 6cm x 6cm 120 negative.

I have this week to get 50 negatives scanned, fixed, sorted, and narrowed down to the few that get submitted for the three shows with deadlines approaching rapidly. January 15th is not that many days away.

Nude Night in Orlando and Tampa, the Seattle Erotic Arts show, and the competition to be in the annual art book from Erotic Signature are the ones I'm working on now. Thankfully I had enough work to submit to the Dirty Show in Detroit, so now it's all about the waiting on that one. I had hoped to hear from them by now, but they had some weather issues in Detriot over the holidays that postponed the notifications. I can completely understand that. The ice storm we had here, while it paled by comparison, was enough to screw up Indianapolis for a few days. And we had it easy.

Think good thoughts. I may have something for you to see soon from the last few shoots.
