Goodbye Superman

Christopher Reeve's struggle is finally over. No longer is he
dependent upon tubes and machines and the efforts of others to provide his
breath, his sustenance, or attend to his every physical need.

He sustained is injuries at what should have been the middle of a
successful career, doing something he apparently loved. And he was one of
the lucky ones, if that can be said of anyone in his situation.

Reeve had an extensive support network and the resources to provide him
with a level of care quite possibly second to none. He remained a
public figure, bringing the world's attention to the cause of spinal cord
injuries and charities supportive to persons with these injuries.

He made some extremely popular movies during his abbreviated career,
including but certainly not limited to the three Superman movies.
Perhaps one of his more memorable performances was in the much more intimate
"Somewhere in Time."

Reeve also stretched his comedic legs in the very adult comedy
"Deathtrap" with Michael Cain. Admittedly, this murder-mystery-farce is
probably my favorite of his movies.

This was not a man who should be mourned. Rather, his was a life that
should be celebrated for the things he was able to accomplish in spite
of what could have been a life ending injury, and one which is
certainly life shattering at best.
