Smack-down due

SlagleRock's Slaughterhouse has a story up now taken from Stars and Stripes that bears some attention.

I hope like hell this isn't true. No reserve military personnel should ever have to worry about their employment. When you're deployed, the laws are there to protect you from that, and these companies need to be held accountable for their actions.

You hear all of the good things that companies like Home Depot do, but then someone like Pep Boys steps out and shows their true colors. It's sickening, to think that they would find an isolated incident, a non-termination one at that, to fire what had been a good employee.

I'll buy my parts at AutoSource, thank you. Pep Boys is cheaper, but so is their treatment of Reservists and Guardsmen to this point.

Now, in all fairness, GOC in Winston Salem at Obnoxious Droppings is delving deeper into this story to make sure it is not an urban legend. As it stands now, however, I tend to believe what is put out by Stars and Stripes. If this is bogus, I'll issue an apology. If not, then Pep Boys needs to be prosecuted.

This was first reported over a year ago, during the buildup. The fact that it has not been scotched by now leads me to believe that it is true.

Pep Boys lost me as a customer eight years ago with bait and switch and crappy service. They don't have a presence in my current area. It would be awkward for me to boycott them over this, but I'll think nasty thoughts about them while shopping at Advance or AutoZone.

Well Mama, after much searcing around on the web this does in fact appear to be true. The man was fired in 02 and has been battling with the corporate Nazi's at Pep Boys ever since. While a judge ruled he can not sue he ordered the case be arbitrated.

Hopefully he will get adequate financial compensation.

It is a sad, sad day. Superman is Dead.

Christopher Reeve has passed on at the age of 52.
