Peeves and Curiosities

One more day until the next debate. Economics this time will be the topic although we all know how quickly that can and will change.

I will be watching, and I just may try to keep track of how many times that happens and just who initiates it. Too bad I’ll be at the parentals’ as there is no beer in that house for the drinking game. Maybe I’ll substitute Oreo Cookies… nah, too many calories, as the cookie count could mount quickly. I’ll have to give this some thought.
************
Is it just me, or is anyone else curious about who owns the factcheck.com domain name? Of course, Soros denies all involvement. Still, I’d love to know who dashed out and bought that up and put together that redirect to Soros’ blog. I mean, that wasn’t just fast. It was almost prescient.
************
And another curiosity: have there been any incidents of violence against Kerry/Edwards campaign offices? I only ask because as of last night, there have been two drive-by shootings, and two cases of rioting protestors invading and trashing offices in Orlando and Milwaukee. Add to this the burglary and theft of three laptop computers from a campaign office in Washington state. How long will it be before some one is seriously hurt by these thugs?
************
I want to go on the record by stating that if I had been Cheney, and the hair model had brought up my daughter like he did, I’d have hardly been as polite about it in my response as Cheney was in his.
************
While I’m on that, one of the great unasked questions of the VP debate: “Mr. Edwards. Mr. Cheney has stated and it is part of the record that he applied for and was given deferrals to avoid being drafted into the military during the Viet Nam war. You, however, neither volunteered for service like the President or your running-mate, nor can you provide any record of deferrals. What exactly did you do to avoid the draft or military service at a time when few were able to do so?” I don’t know about you, but I want to know how he did it. His number was called, and persons much further down the list went when called and served. Technically, one of them went in his place when you come right down to it, and possibly died in his slot. Don’t you think we as the voting public deserve to know, particularly in light of the snipe-hunt conducted by his own party regarding Bush’s TANG service?
************
Since I seem to be stuck on the debates, let me make one point abundantly clear. I will be reduced to a screaming mad harpy if I hear our magnificent men and women of the military called Children one more time.

Just. One. More. Time.

These are proud, skilled, brave, intelligent, driven, duty-bound men and women. They serve because they stepped into an office, assessed their chances, tested high enough to be qualified, signed on the dotted line, passed an intense and rigorous training program, and graduated to a unit of other well-trained personnel. Do not demean them or their service by calling them Children. It is an insult and an afront to every one of them, to every man or woman who served before them, and to the parents to raised them to be the men and women they are.
************
Well, I'm sure something else will erupt from my grey-matter later. I'll keep you posted.

Great blog, Yeah, how did Edwards escape the draft?

A better question would be, considering his running mate's service record during and post-war, aren't we damned lucky that Edwards didn't serve???

But to answer your point, I think his draft board took one look at him and considered him ineligible for military service due to sexual orientation. Anyway, who could have contemplated turning that hair-do into a buzz cut???

Interesting. Edwards was born in 1953, and the draft ended in 1973. He had to register in 1971 when he was 18, leaving him with two years' of exposure. By 1971, it was done by lottery, and it may well be that he caught a high number. Still, a good question.

The older I get the more I come to the conclusion that the Democratic Party is full of criminals. It is sad but I am sure that Edwards got out of the draft by some illegal means. Otherwise he couldn't have qualified for his Democratic Membership card.
